Learn How To Remove Common Stains From Vinyl Siding

Posted on: 12 July 2015

Vinyl siding on homes often becomes stained with dirt, mildew, grass, and grease. Learn how to remove these stains and restore the siding on your home to its original condition with the following steps. Once you have finished, easily keep the siding maintained throughout the year.

Use The Following Materials

  • water hose
  • strong detergent (commercial product)
  • soft bristle scrub brush
  • vinyl tarp
  • bleach
  • soapy water
  • bucket
  • degreaser

Remove Dirt Stains

Spray the vinyl surface with a water hose to remove loose dirt. Add a small amount of strong detergent to a bucket of warm water. Apply the cleaning solution to dirt that is stuck on the vinyl siding and stains with a soft bristle scrub brush. Move the brush back and forth with firm pressure. Rinse the detergent off the vinyl with a water hose when finished.

Remove Mold And Mildew

Mold or mildew appears as black streaks or spots. It is often caused from moisture on the vinyl surface. Cover the ground next to your home with a vinyl tarp to protect plants and grass from the cleaning solution that you will be using. Mix equal parts of bleach, strong detergent, and warm water together in a bucket. Dip a scrub brush into the bucket and apply it to the mold and mildew stains.

Press down firmly on the brush while moving it over the vinyl surface. If you have difficulty removing some of the spots, add more bleach to the cleaning solution. Remove residue left behind by the cleaning solution with a water hose.

Remove Grease Stains

Grease stains often cannot be removed with regular cleaning products. Apply a degreaser directly on each greasy area. Allow it to penetrate for several minutes before scrubbing the areas. Add more degreaser if needed. Rinse the vinyl off with a water hose when finished.

Maintain The Siding

You can minimize the amount of cleaning that you need to complete in the future by removing the stains soon after they appear. Simply spraying off your home with a pressure washer or hose that is adjusted to a setting that provides strong water pressure several times a year will eliminate most substances. Keep the grass trimmed around your home and inspect the vinyl for dirt and debris after severe weather. All of these tips will keep the vinyl on your home looking nice for many years and will prevent it from becoming damaged. Contact a company like Superior Products for more information.
