Creating A New Look For Your Home With New Siding

Posted on: 1 August 2017

The outside of your home is just as important as the inside when it comes to making an impression on someone. Even before they step inside, people form an opinion based on the way your house looks as they walk up to The better it looks from the curb, the more inviting it will be to visitors and the higher the resale value will be when the time comes to upgrade or move.

Working on that Curb Appeal

There are a lot of things that can affect the way your house looks from the street. The lawn care, the shrubs, the planted beds, and yes, the siding on the home. You want the home to look great and part of that is keeping up with things like the paint or siding. Getting the lowest maintenance siding possible makes that easier. Getting one that looks great with little to no work is even better.

Siding Options

There are many options for siding but depending on the area you live in, there may be a few that are more suited to your weather. In most climates, vinyl or aluminum siding will stand up nicely but if you want a more natural look you could consider a wood siding. The downside to wood is that it does require some maintenance. Vinyl, on the other hand, needs to be washed occasionally and is very durable. In fact, the vinyl you install on your home may very well be the last siding you have installed while you own the home.

Scrape, Sand, Primer, and Paint

If you want the look of a wood siding and don't mind the maintenance, you can get a lot of very nice materials installed on the home. With wood comes repainting every few years to keep it looking nice. The old paint must be scraped off carefully and then the rough spots sanded down to smooth and blend the surface. The entire home should be painted in a primer coat to seal the wood and create better adhesion of the paint. Then the entire home can be painted. Most of the time you will need several coats so be prepared that one coat will most likely not take care of it.

Hiring a Professional

If the time has come to replace the siding on your home, hiring a contractor, such as from Patriot Construction, to do the work may be the best solution. While a homeowner with good carpentry skills could do the work, they most likely won't have the tools to do the work. There are of course always exceptions to that but the fastest and most efficient way to get the work done is to have a contractor bring a crew and do the work for you.
